Four Yeas On - 2006-04-11 |
2006-04-11 - 9:38 p.m. Tomorrow, April 12 will be my four year anniversary at Diaryland. I guess that is sort of cheating. Diaryland and I have been separated for a while. But Diaryland kept the house and the kids. By the way, my clever plan to stop spam by adding an entry did not work. So I changed my email address to a gmail email address. That should stop the spam in its tracks. I love the gmail. And I recommend it to all my friends. But you have to be invited to get it. Unless you go to Craigs List and scan for someone giving away extra ones. Which I did. And it is great, as I mentioned before. Oh, before I forget. Last night I saw the film Inside Man, the new Spike Lee Joint. I was worried because Spike Lee can ruin a film like nobody's business. And then he makes a film I consider great, like Malcolm X. So the film started and within the first few minutes one of the characters says, "And in the words of the immortal bard, 'therein lies the rub.'" I was immediatly snapped out of the film and angry because that is not a real Shakespeare quote. Is it? Therein lies the rub. What the hell does that even mean? I know in Hamlet there is the quote "Aye, there's the rub." But where did this quote go so very wrong? Did the writer even go to high school? So, just to be on the safe side I did a google search for the phrase "therein lies the rub" and there were some posts from 2004 asking where the quote came from. I guess a lot of people misquote it, so now it's real, sort of. But the rest of Inside Man was great. I had sworn to the friend that recommended it to me that if Spike Lee put a shot where a character and camera are fixed on a dolly as it moves as though the character is walking, then I would stand up and walk out of the theater. I hate that fucking shot he puts in every fucking movie. And for no reason other than he just likes doing it. And by George that shot came along and I stayed seated. It did not ruin the movie. And I was grateful. So, there you have it. Four years and still nothing much has happened. Except last I week I discovered my purpose in life... which was nice. I'm still working on it. Jimmy
