2003-05-08 - 9:04 p.m.

That's More Like It I got a call back on the job I applied for. It made me feel so much better. It was 5:45 pm. I was still sitting at my desk looking at a pile of work I had yet to do. My mind had already shut down. Kevin is still on his honeymoon. Viarum's uncle died this morning and he had to go be with his family. That just left Ben and me. We were pretty busy. So when the phone rang I wondered who was calling me on my private line. It was Anthony at the broadcasting company. He liked my resume and wanted to talk to me about the job. He described it to me, I listened. He asked me about myself and I told him what my current job is like and what I like to do. He was very enthusiastic and happy. Then he told me that he would email me a job description to look over. Then I could give him a call back tomorrow and tell him if I am interested or not. The job pays the same as I make now, I was hoping for more, but at this point I would take it just to get away from the horror I currently call my job. I would get to work downtown in the CNN Center which would be cool. I would not have to work as many hours and the benefits would be better. Also, at this new company I would have a discernable career track. At my current company no one really gets promoted, you just get more work to do. When it is time to hire a new manager they get someone from outside the company. That new person stays for a while and then scurries back to the company they just left. The president does not seem to notice this is a problem. I talked to Ben for a while about quitting. He is completely demoralized by the way he has been treated. He and I are the same age, both grown, intelligent men who are baffled by the way they treat us. We are both creative and organized people who just want to do our jobs. No matter what we do it never seems to be enough. Today I asked Ben if her were the president of a company and he saw employees walking around frazzled and overworked and unhappy would he notice? Would he allow it to continue? We both agreed it was no way to run a department. If only we had a good boss. If only we had a complete staff. If only we were allowed enough time to do what we need to do instead of constantly running behind. But it is not going to happen. So the best thing to do is leave as soon as possible. Tomorrow I will call Anthony and let him know I am interested. I will set up an interview as soon as possible. If they offer me the job I will take it. I will put in my notice and they will probably escort me to the door that same day and tell me to never come back. Wish me luck. Jimmy
