Wisteria

Yes.  I went into work today.  One of my clients needed to be trained.  So I went into the office to do it.  It went well.  Working six days a week is great.  I get so much more done now.

It wasn't so bad, actually. David came in, too. He had some work to do and we chatted for a while. As I was leaving Tommy came in to work on our web servers. So at least I am not alone.

Here is one of the things I have always loved about living in the South.  And by the South I mean the Deep South of the United States.  The sunny South, really. There is a climbing vine that grows wild in these parts.  It is a flowering vine called wisteria and it is a member of grape family, but it does not produce fruit.

Wisteria entwines itself to trees, on fences, and whatnot.  When it flowers it produces a beautiful bunch of purple flowers that sort of resemble a bunch of grapes.  It has a really nice fragrance, too.  It is sweet and subtle.  Very pleasant when you walk past it in the woods.  I have been seeing it all over the place this week, growing along the interstate, in my neighborhood and near the office building where I work.

Wisteria is the ideal Southern wild plant.  Some would say the magnolia tree is more of a Southern emblem.  Others advocate the live oak tree of the coastal regions with Spanish moss hanging off its branches.  But I say give me good old wisteria every time.  It climbs up the trees, mixes in with the kudzu, and once a year we get to enjoy the display of purple flowers that seem to just drip off the vines and pop out of the greenery.

Wisteria!  Ask for it by name.

Of course, there is another native plant called the Cherokee Rose that I am pretty fond of. It is the Georgia State flower.  Georgia also has a state bird, which is the Brown Thrasher and a state game bird, the Bobwhite Quail.
