Today was Tuesday

What an incredibly beautiful day we had today.  It was warm and sunny.  Tomorrow is supposed to be even more temperate.  I spent a little time outside.  It was very nice.  I walked out by the fountain next to the building where I work.  The geese are nesting in the flowerbeds.  I always think that is funny.  Here is this big, tall modern glass building with a plaza and a large coy pond with fountains gushing and a bunch of geese and ducks are digging up the flowerbeds and roosting on the deck chairs.

The other day I saw a crane standing in the pond.  From time to time I see a crane.  It is so weird looking it always catches my attention.  This most recent crane hung around for about a week.  I was just standing watching it when suddenly it plucked a fish out of the water.  It just stood there holding the fish in its beak, looking around.  The crane flapped its wings, lifted out of the water and landed a few feet away on the grass.  It dropped the fish and started pecking at it.  I wonder if this is an omen, I thought.

For thousands of years birds and their habits have been considered omens.

So, on the news this morning I heard a lot of stories about how the war with Iraq has somehow lasted well into the week.  People are starting to get impatient about our not having won the war yet.  The topic of conversation was that we have to be patient and realize that war takes a while.

What a load of crap.  Everyone in the world has officially gone insane.  A few weeks ago the perception being created was that American and Britain would roll in unopposed and liberate a grateful Iraq.  For some unknown reason, the troops are meeting with resistance. It is as though they don't understand that we are supposed to win right away.

Now soldiers have been killed.  Some have been captured and are, I guess, being tortured.  It just hurts to think of it.  It is pretty much what I expected would happen.
