No Sugar
But at work today suddenly Tommy comes into our office and says we're having a quick meeting. He brought a big chocolate cake for Gary's birthday and was cutting it up and handing it out. I said that I was not going to have cake, I had given up sugar. The president said I HAD to have it. He said it several times. I didn't argue with him. I just took the cake and stood there cutting it up into little bits with the fork. Not eating it, just moving he fork around. Kevin said he would eat it when he was done with his. Then Jamie came in and they told him he had to have cake and he said no. They all asked why not, and he said he did not want any. He was attacked for a few minutes. And then they let off on him. He saw that I was holding the cake but not eating it. Then he saw me switch plates with Kevin. No one else in the room noticed or cared. I knew Jamie was going to be the one to beat in the weight loss contest. He has drastically cut his calorie intake and I think he intends to starve himself. He had already given up sugar and was not going to be made to eat cake when he did not want it. But he became so defensive he was attacked. Later Tommy came back to ask me how I liked the cake. Jamie and Kevin were listening. He asked me if it was as good as the other cakes and I said, "I haven't tasted any better." Then I quickly asked him a question about where he got it and he went off on a tangent and never came back to the part where I answered the question. I talked to Jaime about it later when we were talking about strategies for winning the contest. I created the appearance of eating the cake and that was good enough. You see, I had made a decision to stop eating sugar. I could not be made to eat it after deciding. Also, this cake smelled like it had brandy in it. I don't drink alcohol and I stay away from stuff that has alcohol in it. It is a choice I made. I can't say I'm not going to have it and then the next day have it, no matter who else thinks it is a good idea. Jamie said, "Thanks by the way for defending me." I told him he had climbed out on that limb on his own and as far as my defending him, well, that was not going to happen. He is a grown man and can pick his own battles. I certainly do. Jimmy
